[working coolies]
|
| To retain the Coolies natural herding instinct
and characteristics it is necessary to only breed from dogs
demonstrating these qualities. In recent times there has been
a remarkable boost in the breeds’ popularity resulting in an
increase in backyard and urban breeders. The majority of these
Coolies have never worked or even laid eyes on livestock for
many generations. Understandably, the natural herding ability
is lost over time.
|
|
| It is advised that before buying a Coolie
from any breeder advertising ‘working lines’, you enquire as
to exactly what they mean. ‘Working Lines’ should simply the
pups ancestors were working or herding dogs but often this is
not the case. It is recommended you observe a number of the
breeders’ dogs working stock to evaluate technique and working
temperament and to ensure the claims of ‘working ability’ or
‘working lines’ are substantiated and these coolies truly possess
the natural instinct the breed is renowned for.

|
|
| A club registered coolie does not automatically
make it a ‘working dog’ nor do photographs of a coolie chasing
stock around mean it has ‘working instinct’ or is from ‘working
lines’. Dogs are natural predators. Any dog can chase a sheep,
cow or horse; it doesn’t make it a practical or even useful
working coolie.
All Toolalla Coolies are proven working dogs from quality
bloodlines spanning decades. We know our Coolies parentage history
and only own and breed the very best specimens.
