Our History
|
|
Toolalla Kennels began on a 1800 acre sheep property
in Mudgee NSW. In 1988 the kennel was relocated to a large sheep and
cattle property in Barraba NSW where our Coolies were in charge of up to
10,000 merino sheep and 300 head of cattle. After running this large
property for 18 years, it was decided to relocate to a smaller, more
maintenance friendly property in Tingha, NSW. This has allowed Richmond
to focus more on breeding, training and working his coolies.
Our first Coolie (‘Koolie’) was obtained in 1945
and since that day, we’ve diligently strived to preserve the working
instinct of the breed by only joining our most exceptional working
dogs. All our Coolies are used primarily for working stock and are from
excellent working bloodlines spanning decades. Because we adopted a
strict selective breeding program right from the start, we’re still able
to produce outstanding quality Coolies (‘Koolies’) today |

Our Preferences
|
| Toolalla Kennels breed both red and blue
merle varieties and favour the short smooth coat which handles the heat
and grass seeds more effectively. We prefer thick set dogs with long
legs conveying the potential to travel large distances with untiring
stamina. We look for dogs which are dark in colour with good merle
coverage; while staying clear of dogs with excessive white (particularly
on the head) as it increases the chance of deafness and sun damage. We
completely avoid solid coloured or black and white coolies because we
believe they are not ‘true coolies’ but rather ‘throw backs’ and
therefore, should not be bred from. The percentage of solid coloured
coolies is increasing with many breeders having difficulty in finding
homes for solids. We don’t add to the problem by breeding a type that is
often not desired.

| Our puppies are raised in a family
environment and are familiarised with stock, kids and other animals at
an early age. Our puppies come with a Toolalla Kennels Parentage
Certificate. We also offer a 30 day money back guarantee. |
